Who knew herbs could be so pretty? Ornamental oregano is one of those plants that seem to fit right into just about any sunny border situation. The fragrant, small dark green foliage makes an attractive clump. Then in mid-summer the clusters of violet-purple flowers bloom atop the 18-inch stems, and keep right on going until frost. After frost, the foliage turns a lovely burgundy and the dried flowers persist on the stems through winter. Deer resistant and attractive to pollinators. Makes a nice cut flower and dries well too. Grow in full sun in average, well-drained garden soil. Zone 5.
