If you like the yellow-leaf coral bells but they haven’t proven to be heat tolerant in your garden, your solution is here. From France comes ‘Citronelle,’ a gold leaf mutation from the wonderful H. villosa hybrid, ‘Caramel.’ Like its parent,‘Citronelle’ makes a robust clump of lime-yellow foliage that grows 1 foot tall and 18 inches wide, topped in summer with tall spikes of small white flowers. ‘Citronelle’ is best in shade to part sun. Makes a beautiful underplanting to the blue-blooming shrub chastetree, or interplanted with the dark green Bear’s Foot Hellebore. Evergreen (or ever-gold in this case). Zone 4.
