Seven-son flower is a rare and versatile plant that can be grown either as a large shrub or small tree, depending how you prune and train it. In late summer to early fall its 10- to 15-foot arching frame is covered with creamy white flowers with a jasmine fragrance. It has wonderful peeling bark for winter interest, but the best part is after the flowering, when the vivid deep pink calyxes remain ornamental, often until November! Grow in full sun to light shade and moist, well-drained, acid soil. Prefers soil with adequate organic matter, but adaptable to clay and dry soils as long as it drains well. Pest- and disease-resistant, this plant has all the ornamental features necessary to be prized and useful in the landscape.
