padHelleborus foetidus (Bear's Foot Hellebore)

This exceptional evergreen hellebore will add an elegant textural accent to any shade garden. The long hands of dark glossy leaves may have tints of red or slate blue. The flower buds begin to show in winter, bright chartreuse over the blackgreen winter foliage. When they open in February, the bell-shaped chartreuse blossoms often have a burgundy red edge. Bear’s foot hellebore will naturalize where it is happy. Baby plants often germinate under the mother plant. It prefers woodland conditions with deep, fertile, moist humus-rich soil in dappled shade, but it is very tolerant of drought and adverse soil conditions as long as drainage is good. It is a fast grower, too, and will make a big plant in no time. 18-24 inches tall with an 18-inch spread. Zone 6.

1 Gallon.
