This plant will generate more buzz than anything else in your shade garden! The 4- to 6-foot bamboo-like (but not running!) shoots emerge in spring clothed in shades of pink, white and green, all maturing to multiple-branched clumps of glossy, dark green foliage, topped in late spring with fragrant, creamy-white to green bell-shaped flowers. The flowers are followed by shiny black fruit in the fall. Best in full to partial shade and consistently moist soil with a good organic matter content.
