Boxwoods are the foundation of great winter gardens, and in our deer-ravaged landscapes, boxwood stands out un-eaten. ‘Wintergreen’ is a handsome, smallleaved, light green form that performs superbly in cold climates. Leaves do not discolor in the winter. Boxwoods appreciate well-drained soils, so don’t plant them in a low spot, but otherwise are very adaptable as to soils, sun and shade. ‘Wintergreen’ will slowly grow to 3 or 4 feet, and would make a nice low hedge or ‘back of the border’ planting. Can be sheared, too, if a more formal look is desired. Mix with flowering shrubs and groundcovers for elegant foundation plantings. Deer resistant. Zone 5.
