The blackberry lily will add beautiful color and architectural interest to the late summer garden. The spiky shape of this plant provides a welcome contrast to the mounded shape of many perennials. The eye-catching yellow-orange flowers with red spots emerge from sword-like foliage, followed by dried seedpods that open to reveal clusters of shiny black seeds, the source of its common name. Cut and use in fall arrangements. Will self-sow some, but not weedy. A beautiful landscape plant that is surprisingly tough and drought tolerant. Attractive to butterflies. Best in full sun and well-drained soil. 2-3 feet tall with a similar spread. Zone 5.
